Hans Hofmann: Circa 1950

Book Design

Hans Hofmann: Circa 1950 was published on the occasion of The Rose Art Museum’s exhibition of nine studies for murals that Hofmann produced for the Chimbote Project—architect Josep Sert’s 1950 Peruvian urban planning project. The book includes essays by curators Michael Rush and Catherine Morris, and renowned critic Irving Sandler.

When commissioned by The Rose Art Museum to design this book, an opportunity arose to visit the storage facility housing the primary works of the exhibition. With the help of a professional photographer, high-resolution close-up photos were obtained which would serve as the visual backbone of the book.
