The CUNY Graduate School of Public Health & Health Policy (CUNY SPH) is a highly-rated graduate school of public health—ranking in the top 10% of all programs nationwide (U.S. News and World Report). The school is committed to teaching, research and service—promoting equitable, efficient, and evidence-based solutions to health problems faced around the world. Between 2006 and 2016, the school operated as a consortial program between Hunter, Brooklyn, and Lehman college along with the Graduate Center. In 2016, the school became a free-standing unified graduate school located at 125th St and Malcolm X Blvd in Harlem. To support this development as a standalone entity, a new visual identity was created and implemented.
The logo system is based on a typographical lockup of the acronym CUNY SPH to support the school’s effort to build equity in an easy-to-remember name compared to the school’s full, official designation. The primary stacked orientation fits inside a square as a nod to the CUNY university-level identity—as is the use of dark blue in the core color palette. Flexible modularity is created via the primary lockup’s bottom right corner being open—it serves as a docking bay for additional typographical identifiers representing the school’s range of programs, departments, and initiatives. In addition, a horizontal lockup was created for standalone use, or for when space requires it.
